I bought this camera to replace my old russian camera Zenit ET.
I was using it for long enough and at the time was quite pleased with it. But secretly allways wanted to replace it by something
better.
Everything changed when my friend bought his Minolta Dynax 5. It was so different from what I used.
So, after 6 months or so, I bouht my Canon EOS 300. Minolta Dynax 5 at that time was a bit expensive to
me, older Minolta models (like 505si ir 404) had some limitations, were heavy. So I looked at other brands. Couldn't
find a newest model of Nikon or Minolta, at the shops that I could play with it, or either they were also a bit expensive.
And then I saw Canon. It was not that I did big reserch in comparing different models of different brands.
You could say that I bought it blind, well, you know how sometimes it is.
Only after buying my camera I started a bit deeper internet research, and it appeared that this camera is
quite good comparing to other models.
Camera is very light and balances well wit kit lens mounted on it. It was much lighter that Zenit camera
I used before.
Mode dial is good, not tide, not loose. You can quickly see what mode you are shooting with. I liked this
dial much better than presing button few times in Minolta Dynax 5 or 4 models.
P mode in this camera I like most, when you don't want to think. Besides, it is shiftable, so you can easilly
change exposure and aperiture. Av, Tv and M modes I use rarely, only when I want some effects. Never used Program modes, but
they are good for some begginers in photography.
The built in flash, in general, is good, but not sufficient. Also there is annoying flash bursts when you
want to help your camera to focus in dim conditions. Also you get red eyes most of the time when taking pictures of people.
Shutter button is a bit tight, and you have to hold your camera very firmly to avoid camera shake when pressing
the button. For advanced photographers it is not a problem, but for some casual time photographers this is a problem.
One thing that is a bit different from other cameras is that, camera, when you load a film, advances all
the film on the other trundle of the camera, and when taking pictures, all exposed frames are pulled in the magazine. That
way, all your exposed frames are safe if you accidentally open your camera.
The kit lens 28-90mm f/4-5.6 DC is quite good for begginer and to someone who is not after picture quality.
The flare is always a big problem. Also you cant get sharp pictures until you stop it down to f/8 or f/11. All details are
gone in dark areas of most pictures.
